Holistic Nurse Reiki Program (HNRP)

The Holistic Nurse Reiki Program was created to provide education needed to integrate Reiki into nursing practice.   This continuing education program is open to all nurses interested in learning this healing practice to enhance both the care of self and care of others. Instruction in Reiki using the nursing process will enable nurses to learn Reiki from the perspective of evidence-based nursing practice. Faculty bring over 35 years of combined experience in teaching and providing Reiki care, giving students the level of instruction required to integrate this approach into their personal and professional practice.

Holistic Nurse Reiki Program

Through a Nursing Lens

Energy-based modalities used within the context of nursing care reflect aspects of Jean Watson’s theory of transpersonal care, promoting healing for both self (nurse) and others, connectedness, intentionality, and authenticity (Anderson, et. al., 2017).

As holistic nurses, it is important that we understand and are able to articulate the underpinnings of the services that we offer, including how energy balancing affects our overall well-being. This shift in perspective is an invitation, perhaps even a calling, for all nurses to elevate their care by adopting approaches and modalities that facilitate self-growth and healing for both themselves and others.

Training

There are three degrees of Reiki each with its own unique energetic expression and purpose for healing. The Third degree is divided into Level III and Reiki Master (Teacher) training.

Each level consists of an online self-study component complete with manuals, videos and instructor guidance, as well as an experiential learning experience where students practice and share their experiences with Reiki.

  • Describe Reiki in the context of spiritual practice; including cultural and religious considerations
  • Demonstrate an understanding of rituals, sacred space and the importance of these in the practice of Reiki
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and the ability to center, ground and set an intention
  • Describe the difference between healing and curing
  • Describe Reiki as a biofield therapy
  • Discuss Reiki as an evidence-based practice that complements nursing practice
  • Explore the Chakra System and Auric Field as they relate to Reiki in both personal and professional practice
  • Engage in Reiki as self-care and self development
  • Identify individual self-care needs
  • Identify the process of using Reiki within the nursing process; including, the importance of informed consent

This introductory training program delves into the realm of Reiki practice, emphasizing energy healing from a nursing perspective and aligning with the holistic nursing process. By adopting this approach, we ensure comprehensive assessment and care of the mind, body, and spirit. At each level of Reiki, participants experience an attunement that facilitates access to the universal life force energy.

While acknowledging our inherent connection to the universal life force energy, the Reiki attunement opens and balances the energy system in the hands, enabling the capacity for accessing energy. This newfound ability serves the purpose of assisting both oneself and others. In this training, you will receive the first symbol of the Reiki healing system, along with instructions on its proper utilization.

Furthermore, students are introduced to the philosophy of Reiki and learn to integrate it into their daily lives. At this level, Reiki is primarily focused on self-care, aiding friends and family, as well as providing support to pets.

Throughout the training program’s various levels, the primary focus is on integrating Reiki as a valuable tool in evidence-based nursing practice. In addition to the experiential aspects of the training, in-depth discussions delve into healing versus curing, documentation, informed consent, and the principles of Watson’s Caring Science, among other topics.

This level of training represents an additional commitment to assisting others with their healing journey and spiritual care whether in person or at a distance. We learn about how to create sacred space , the power of intention and the use of presence.

You will receive two additional symbols with instructions on when and how to use them. The level two attunement is received to enhance the effect of these symbols in your own healing as well as for others. Study of distance Reiki and a Mental/Emotional technique is taught as well as study of the auric fields.

At this level we do a deep dive into the nursing process and holistic nursing and how it relates to the use of Reiki as a nursing intervention.  This includes research studies, nursing standards, insurance and how the HNRP can help enhance the life of the nurse both personally and professionally.

This level of training is for those seeking to enhance their training and experience of Reiki in preparation for teacher training or for their own self development.

At this level the nurse is seeing the potential for an impact of this work on a broader scale.    We investigate how to structure a program offering Reiki in health care settings and take a deeper dive into the research and what this means for nurses.  Our vision shifts to a more global perspective of health, expanding on the concept of healing for ourselves, our community and the planet.

A Master attunement received at this level encourages a greater frequency of energy for the purpose of addressing higher states of consciousness. The Reiki Master symbol enhances the effects of all symbols previously learned.  Additional techniques for the use of Reiki expand on the practice of Reiki for themselves and their clients.   A more in-depth discussion of the origins of Reiki are explored, the evolution of Reiki training as well as exercises to prepare the nurse for the Holistic Nurse Reiki Master Program.

This level of training is designed for those seeking to enhance their own experience with Reiki energy both personally and professionally.   The nurse receives the Master attunement required to teach and attune others to all four levels of the Holistic Nurse Reiki Program.   It is a period of spiritual growth and integration of ourselves as nurse, spiritual being and health advocate.

The HNRP Master level focuses on philosophy, skills and techniques to embody the role of Holistic Nurse Reiki Master. Instruction in all four attunement processes will be taught as well as guidance in how to teach each level from and through the nursing lens.   Manuals and certificates for all four levels are included.
